The new vineyards

In the early nineties, Celler Vall Llach started some new plantations intended to complete the Celler's wine producing possibilities: a group of estates with complex wine producing possibilities, ranging from gentle valleys to the highest peaks.

Four basic varieties were chosen: Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The last three varieties are from outside the region and produce highly original results when combined with the unique personality of the Priorat.

A very limited part of these varieties will be used to complete and soften the complexities and taste structures of Vall Llach, our signature wine, elaborated primarily from the grapes of the ‘trossos’, our isolated parcels of century-old vines located on the winery grounds.

Another part, also of extremely high quality, will help to define the second house wine, Idus de Vall Llach which is also produced from century-old vines but, in this case, from land which is not located on the winery. These vines are cultivated by life-long farmers who collaborate with our winery by bringing us their grapes, thus defining a wine which we are proud to call a Priorat wine in a pure state of authenticity.

But above all, these new plantations allow for the production of Embruix, a renewed wine surprising for its depth and the concentration of its aromas and flavour, despite the fact that the plantations are relatively new.

The possibility of mechanisation and rationing the harvest of these new plantations allows Embruix to be commercialised with a close relation between quality and price.

With the new vines attention was also paid to the stocks, with an effort being made to avoid going over 800-1000 grams, according to the variety.
