Our century-old vineyards: els "trossos"

Celler Vall Llach owns and rents a group of century-old estates, known to people from Priorat as the "trossos".

Chosen from among the best in the area of Porrera and Torroja, they guarantee a grape which is extraordinary and exclusive to their wines.

These old vines, chosen for the magnificent age of their stocks, are located in areas with highly enviable conditions due to their surroundings, wine-processing possibilities, hours of sunshine and height above sea level. Their slopes are impressive to the eye, preventing any kind of mechanized farming which forces an intimate and exclusive relationship with the wine grower.

These slate slopes, unable to retain water in the midst of an already scarce level of rainfall, contribute to the condition of age-old vines which are blessed with the long hours of sunshine of a dry, fiery climate.

These and other motives explain the unique concentration of grapes on the vine and, in addition to this, the Celler Vall Llach goes even further in its insistence on quality by reducing the productivity of the old vines, which hardly weigh in at more than 500 grams, to figures which oscillate between 180 and 300 grams.

Most of the old vine harvest will serve as the main material for the wine which defines the company: Vall Llach.

Most of the old vines are cultivated according to traditional methods without the use of machinery. Wherever possible they are dug up in order to avoid the introduction of cheminal products.

Celler Vall Llach has a privileged relationship with certain wine growers and owners of old vineyards that are chosen between the best of the region. These owners bring their raisins to our cellar.

The greatest part of their must gives another wine, which express substantially the character of our wine growing region Priorat and that we present as the wine of Porrera's village: IDUS of Vall Llach.
